Been told you have to stay in an Approved Premises (Hostel)?
This page will tell you about the approved premises rules. It will also tell you more about the daily routine.
You have to live in an approved premise because:
- You have been ordered to do so by the courts as a condition of bail
or
- As a requirement of a community sentence because the court believes that you need more supervision or a settled address.
or
- It is a condition of your release from prison.
Approved Premises' are staffed 24 hours a day.
Approved Premises are in close contact with the police.
You are not free to come and go as you please when living in an approved premises. You will have to follow strict rules and you must be in the approved premises every night from 11pm to 7am.
Supervision in an Approved Premises means:
- strict rules governing your behaviour
- being in approved premises from 11pm-7am is rigorously enforced
- focused work on reducing your offending
- constructive use of your time
- addressing your problems
- advice on employment and training
- help with move-on accommodation if necessary
Approved Premises rules
If you are an approved premises resident you must:
- Abide by the directions and instructions of staff. This includes:
- following the approved premises Substance Misuse Policy
- attending meetings
- adhering to the hostel routine
- Comply with any curfew - tagging, or other conditions imposed by the courts. Even if you are not tagged, you must stay in the approved premises between 11pm and 7am.
- Not engage in violent, disruptive, sexist or racist behaviour, or offensive language, which interferes or is likely to interfere with the rights of other residents, staff or neighbours.
- Not engage in theft or damage to the property of the approved premises, staff or other residents.
- Pay a contribution to the maintenance of the approved premises, either by working or claiming benefit.
- See the approved premises Medical Officer when appropriate.
- Be out of bed, and stay out of bed, by 9am every weekday morning.
- Not bring, or have in possession, intoxicating drink, drugs not prescribed by a doctor or nurse, or solvents within the premises.
- Not bring, or have in possession, dangerous items within the premises.
Please note:
- approved premises includes the buildings and grounds
- sometimes particular approved premises may require other rules, these will be explained to you when you take up residence.
What to do if you have a complaint
You will be treated fairly and equally while you are in the hostel. You will be expected to behave just as fairly to other people. The service will not allow racist, sexist or other disrespectful behaviour from any person under our supervision.
You can make a complaint if you feel you have been treated unfairly or unreasonably. You should try to talk about this with the hostel staff first, or their managers.
