TVP Home > Probation work > Protecting the public

Protecting people from the risks posed by a relatively small number of potentially dangerous offenders is the top priority for Thames Valley Probation. We operate a dedicated Central MAPPA Unit managing high-risk offenders.

These are offenders who have reached the end of their prison sentences and have been released back into society with strict rules conditions on how they must behave.

For example they may be under a curfew, be forbidden from going to certain places or contacting certain people or may be required to live at an Approved Premises.

This work is carried out with the police and other partner agencies via Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA).

Further public protection work is undertaken by the Public Protection Programmes team, which runs two offending behaviour programmes aimed at sex offenders and domestic abuse perpetrators. For further information on these, click here.
