View the map of Thames Valley which highlights where our offices are and who we work with here.
Thames Valley Probation’s core work is currently broken down into two main areas:
Offender Management and Interventions
Within Offender Management we organise the following functions:
- Court reports
- Supervising and managing offenders on community orders, those in prison and those released from prison on licence
- Assessment of an offender’s risk of harm and risk of re-offending
- Public protection
We also work to reduce re-offending and we call this area of work Interventions. Within Interventions we organise the following functions:
- Offending Behaviour Programmes
- Education, Training and Employment
- Community Payback
- Specified Activities, such as Restorative Justice (where the offender meets with the victim and apologises or makes reparation) and Back on Track (which is appropriate for those who aren’t doing well on their community order and this re-motivates them to complete it, crime-free)
We also keep in contact with victims of crime, where the offender gets 12 months+ in custody, helping them through the process and informing them of key events in the different stages of the offender’s custodial sentence and post-custodial licence.
Thames Valley is a huge geographical area, covering three counties. We organise our work by dividing it into five Local Delivery Units (LDUs), each with its own Leader, who is a senior manager. There is also a Corporate Management Team which structures and oversees the work of the senior managers and their teams.
The five LDUs, which match Thames Valley Police’s Basic Command Units (BCUs) are:
